A FOUNDATION OF LOVE AND COMPASSIONFor many years Karin Whitney Cooke and Lew Whitney have shared a vision of offering their talents and time to promote wellness and healing within a peaceful and healthy setting. People of intense love and compassion, they have built the organization, facilities and programs of the Kokolulu Farm and Qigong Center upon a strong foundation of shared values. These include mutual respect and acceptance, kindness, caring, support, humour, patience, and positive expectations. HOLISTIC HEALING OF MIND, BODY AND SPIRIT Mind-body-spirit healing is the orientation of the qigong center. This takes various forms depending upon the needs of different clients, but always includes healthy nutrition/diet and exercise, Qi Gong, Reiki and other types of Chinese and Japanese arts, and various forms of meditation. Depending upon client needs, other healing modalities are also drawn upon (e.g. guided imagery, shamanic journeying, writing and art therapy, music, acupressure and other body work, homeopathy, crystals, essential oils, light therapy). |
| HEALING PHYSICAL
ENVIRONMENT Just outside the small town of Hawi in the scenic North Kohala area of the Big Island of Hawaii, the Kokolulu Farm and Qigong Center is situated on seven acres of rolling green pastures with breathtaking ocean views and spectacular Mauna Kea vistas. Gentle tropical trade winds keep the North Kohala air the cleanest in the world. This peaceful rural facility is ecologically responsible and environmentally sensitive. Solar and hydro-electric generation provide electrical power. All facilities and grounds at Kokolulu Farm and Qigong Center are smoke-free. Organic food is supplied from Kokolulu's own orchard and garden, or from local organic growers.
Beautiful landscaping, awe-inspiring sunrises and sunsets, the chorus
of tropical birds, rustling coconut fronds and bamboo, and the gentle
presence of the two Golden Retriever dogs promote peace of mind, body
and spirit. A Chinese temple offers a quiet venue for meditation and qi
gong practice. Vegetable, herb and flower gardens offer opportunities
for clients to work with their hands while feeding their senses. WORKSHOPS AND PROGRAMS The Dragon Water Garden provides a space for reflection and contemplation while listening to the sounds of waterfalls and babbling water running over the rocks. Lew and Karin offer workshops on Qi Gong, Reiki and other areas of wellness. Karin's expertise and experience as a wellness counselor, including guidance on exercise, nutrition and appropriate eating patterns, benefit those seeking guidance on how to live a healthier lifestyle. From time to time other resource people with expertise in specific healing modalities facilitate workshops and seminars. Outside practitioners (e.g. acupuncturists, massage therapists) are also contracted to offer services to clients participating in specific healing programs. For people recovering from chronic illness, opportunities are available to live on-site for two to three weeks and also participate in a personalized holistic aftercare program. Longer residential treatment (14-30 days) is available for those with chronic illness, behavioural and addictive disorders. Clients participate in a personalized daily healing program. An integral component is Zhon Guo Hui Gong (Super Energy Chinese Wisdom Qigong). This qigong form was developed by Chinese Master Zhang, Yu-Lei. Over the last eight years Lew has been studying with Master Zhang in China and was authorized by him to bring this super energy qigong program to the United States. RESPECTFUL DECISION MAKING One of the basic tenets of the qigong center's operation is a respectful and inclusive decision-making process. Dialogue continues until consensus is reached. An advisory board of supportive community members and expert practitioners acts as an external resource. Clients take ultimate responsibility for making decisions about their own healing, after receiving input from others with specific expertise. PRACTITIONER TRAINING AND INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH
Kokolulu Farm and Qigong Center serves as a center for training of practitioners in various forms of healing modalities such as qi gong, Reiki and acupressure. A long-term credentialed program is being developed to teach practitioners the skills necessary to set up a Zhong Guo Hui Gong program in their own communities. This program will include course work and a series of on-site practicums at Kokolulu Farm and Qigong Center. Kokolulu Farm and Qigong Center also provides a forum for research of innovative mind-body-spirit healing. KOKOLULU VISIONARIES AND FOUNDERS Karin and Lew are uniquely placed to offer their skills and experience in the sphere of mind-body-spirit healing. As well as their academic credentials and expertise they offer a wealth of experience in various healing modalities. Compassion and empathy form the foundation of their abilities to work with all types of people. Most of all, their shared commitment to healing and wellness enables them to address challenges and develop innovative and effective programs. |
